I’ve moved from here to http://www.willofiron.com stop by and check it out! It’ll be my flagship from now on!

Almost ready to make the switch

•July 8, 2009 • 1 Comment

So I’ve been working pretty hard on getting the new blog set up. Its not quite where I want it yet but its getting closer all the time. If its not up this week it’ll have to wait a couple weeks.

I’ll be out of town next week for military training, but there will still be posts for the blog. I’ve got some great guest posters lined up for next week so even though I won’t be here you don’t have to go without your will of iron…ness

Just had some cardio and abs today. I was feeling like crap this morning so I just did some low intensity steady state ellipticalling today. Then did my usual abs routine and nothing much to write about on that front.

Heading out now to get my second cardio in for the day, a light 3 mile jog around my neighborhood.

A little inspiration from a song

•July 7, 2009 • 2 Comments

So I’m doing my legs day thing today (Man did it ever get done! If I walk tomorrow it’ll be a miracle) and a song comes on at the gym that is actually one of my regulars but I never actually stop to listen to the words or how it corresponds to fitness.

The song is called “Remember the Name” and its from Fort Minor (I think its a Linken Park spinoff)

Anyway they break down a percentage of how I assume the music business goes, but oddly enough as I was crying, because I still had another set of front squats to do, it hit me that the song almost perfectly talks about how weight loss and fitness go.

10% Luck – It takes a little bit of luck to avoid injuries and to have the moral support of those around you to really make a lifestyle change for fitness.

20% Skill – If you go in the gym and sling weights you’re going to injure yourself. It also takes skill to make a program or change that you know that you can stick with.

15% Concentrated Power of Will – Well like my site is name Will of Iron so obviously I agree with this one. This is all about finding that last little bit of energy to get your rep. Or its that little bit you do to fight the urge to eat that cake or pastry. This is the most important one. Without discipline you cannot make the change.

5% Pleasure – Looking at that scale, seeing yourself in the mirror, hearing someone compliment you on how you look, or even just knowing that you’ve beaten a personal record and just ran for 3 miles. Its that 5% that drives us to be great.

50% Pain – Yeah. We all know this one. Working out can suck, eating healthier can suck, and for legs day I might bump this up to a higher percentage. But the other 50% is what keeps up going through the pain. To take a quote from the book FIGHT CLUB “Without pain there can be no progress” So while it hurts and we don’t want to do it anymore we still fight through the pain.

Back on track and it feels great!

Whew it feels good to be back on my game. Last week was a crazy hectic mess and the worst part is I just have this week before I have another crazy week. Next week I’ll be gone all week for military duty.

Between my test on wednesday, finding out on thursday that I had to go to a wedding on friday, going to the wedding and drinking heavily. My diet this last week has been less then optimal. But setbacks happen in fitness, the best you can do is just chin up and get back to work. And that is exactly what I’m starting today. That and doing some price checking on liability insurance for being a personal trainer.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who commented on my test, I really appreciate everyone stopping by and reading what I write, whether it rambles sometimes or not 😉

Now that my test is out of the way, I’m getting ready to make some changes around here. I’ve been toying with the idea of self hosting my blog and I think that’ll be a reality here after I get back from my training next week.

So lets get some good work done this week! And to all that are working on becoming more fit or losing weight themselves keep up the good work!

Hopefully the hotel has a gym.

So I’m in Cleveland today. I found out yesterday that there is a wedding I have to go to today.

Here’s hoping they have a gym at the hotel we are going to because I still have shoulders and triceps to do today.

If I don’t get access to the Internet by tommorow have a great 4th of July weekend!

BOOYAA!

So I passed my test!  After three weeks of studying multiple hours a day I can finally take a couple days off.

So now I have to wait for my certification to come in the mail in four to six weeks and bam!  That actually works out great because I can’t go job hunting anyway until mid july because of military obligations.

Its not all smiles and sunshine though, while I passed it also showed me what I got in each little subsection.  And obviously my weakest point was my lowest score.  Though it was my Achilles heel so to speak during this whole process.  It says right in the ACE book on like page four or five that if you’ve never been a fitness professional before you are going to be severely handicapped.  So never having been a fitness professional before my weakest point was program progression, modification, and maintenance.  So this is an area I need to work on, and now that I’ve got the test out of the way I can start to focus on areas that are more important.

Yeah I didn’t get any sleep at all last night worrying about this test.  So afterwards I slept until a few moments ago and it felt pretty awesome.  Honestly I’ve never worried about a test before so it felt weird to say the least.  Even before I graduated from college I never worried about the tests.  But anyway.  Time to get some food and maybe go see transformers as a treat!

Tommorow is the day

•June 30, 2009 • 1 Comment

So its 6:37pm and I’m as learned as I’m going to get before tommorow.  So I’m taking the rest of the night off, going to play some video games and relax and then head out at 7 am tommorow for my test at 8.  Wish me luck and hopefully after tommorow I can change my about me page and my twitter profile to “Certified Personal Trainer” as opposed to “Future Personal Trainer” 🙂

See you guys tommorow.

Crunch time!

•June 29, 2009 • 2 Comments

Alright crunch time is here so I’m spending 6+ hours a day studying for my test on wednesday at 8am.  So I’m really strapped for time.

If this is your first time stopping by why not check out my Basics of Weight Loss articles?  They are on the side bar on the right side.

Not only that but check out some of the other blogs that I read.  I don’t put them on my blogroll if I don’t think they are awesome!

wrathofnino.wordpress.com is a great blog with a guy that has also come off of a wicked WoW addiction and now is working on fitness.

thefabulousfatties.com These two gals have a great blog that they have just moved to being self hosted!  They run contests from time to time and its a great read!

whoatemyblog.com  Blogs don’t get much more inspirational then this.  This guy has lost 77lbs so far and is doing so well I have no doubt that he’ll keep losing!

http://www.weightfor160.com/ One of my twitter friends that is also doing great with her weight loss!

Theres so many more but I’m out of time, check out my blog roll and if you still need more to read look me up on twitter and check out some of the weight loss people there!  Its a great community.

Yeah that lobster could take me.

man_vs_food

Even though I would never do it.  Even though it pretty much goes against everything the United States needs to do to stop the obesity problem.  I can’t stop watching Man vs. Food on the Travel Channel.

For people that haven’t seen or heard of it.  Its about a guy that goes to cities to find their most outrageous and largest meal challenges and tries to take them on.  Though its not always about eating huge amounts of food, sometimes its about crazily hot foods.  He even came to Columbus once and went up against our Thurman burger.

I just don’t get it.  This show comes on and I can’t change the channel.  Maybe I’m living vicariously through this guy, he eats pancakes the size of my table, burgers larger then my car, and a lobster that could take me in a fight! (Speaking of sea food, The worlds deadliest catch keeps my attention too)

Today is just a cardio and abs day so nothing too huge going on.  Have a great saturday!

Still truckin’

Nothing much new to report.  I consider myself in the home stretch for my test so I’ll be spending most of my time on that.  I’m looking forward to it being over so I can go back to being on twitter and my blog more often.  In fact I’ve been toying around with the idea of starting up a second blog, but we’ll just have to see how that goes.

Today’s workout didn’t go too bad.  Which suprised me because anymore on fridays its when all the guys I can’t stand come to the gym just to annoy me (this is my theory).  Without them it was a normal workout that didn’t involve me fantasizing about hitting people with barbells.

I also got a good run in about half an hour ago so I’m good for the day.  As soon as my chicken breast finishes cooking I’m going to head out again to get another two to three hours of studying before bed.
